inches from the ceiling

last night at church my pastor asked us to draw something to represent our dreams. he spoke about the realization of God-given dreams and desires and how it's impossible without the One who gave them in the first place. today i kept thinking about the short quote from martin luther king, jr. "i have a dream...". and this afternoon a dream came true for my cousin and his wife. she gave birth to their son today. so on miller's birthday i will write down my dreams, dreams i have carved into the bark of my heart and carried around inside my chest. one day they will plant themselves like seeds and grow like weeds :)
i want a house to live in, all my own.
i want to grow old in that house with my husband, and for us to always hold hands and hold each others' hearts like the precious things they are.
i want to have children. preferably three, two girls and one boy, but i will take what comes. i know their names, i see their faces, and i dream about their personalities.
i want to travel the world and see people and eat their food and breathe their air and walk their roads. the united states of america is only a piece of the vast pie.
finally i want to fulfill more of my destiny here on earth. i want the prophecy spoken over me on my 18th birthday to become more true with every passing year. that i will be like deborah, the judge and prophetess who sat under a palm tree and rendered her judgments for the people. i sing  her song again, "awake, awake o deborah! awake and sing your song!"
i want it to matter when i speak. i want to speak in a way that my words are like clear drops of liquid, like refreshing rain. is this too much to ask?
whatever my dreams, they are God-given, God-breathed. i have done a few things on earth that i know i was put here to do, and that is enough. but i hold tightly to the Hand that draws the pictures in my mind of what i want. what i believe He wants for me.

"a dreamer is one who can only find his way by moonlight, and his punishment is that he sees the dawn before the rest of the world." - oscar wilde

"you see things and you say, "why?" but i dream things that never were, and i say, "why not?" - george bernard shaw
