ain't this life so sweet

i'm at my parents house and they have a "real" computer with a real keyboard. i kinda miss typing on a real keyboard. so i thought, maybe i should write! i haven't written since my son was born. that, my friends, was almost 4 months ago. wow. so much has changed. yesterday was independence day and boy was it different from last year. i sat in a chair in my garage and watched what fireworks i could from my vantage point, then i went inside at 9:30. however, as i sat and nursed Ethan and watched the fireworks from the window, i felt so happy. i felt like it was RIGHT. it was quiet, except for the distant boom, boom. it was dark, except for the lights sprinkling down outside. it was beautiful. i do miss certain things about my life before i had my baby, and i do grieve those things from time to time. even with something as wonderful as having a child, some sadness is normal. of course i will miss being able to get up and just GO, without a second thought. i will miss the ease of travel. the ease of taking care of only myself and my husband. my father-in-law made a joke to my husband yesterday. he said, "thought of you today with your mortgage, your house, your cars, your job, your wife, and your new son. yep, happy independence day." it's true that we are "saddled" with a lot. but this is what we wanted. this is the dream. and it reminds me of one of the best pieces of wisdom i've learned. love trumps freedom, every time.
